Blaszczykowski signed a three-year deal with Wolfsburg, who underachieved in the Bundesliga last season to finish eighth in the table – five points behind seventh placed Hertha Berlin in the final Europa League spot.
The predominantly right-sided winger was a popular figure at Dortmund, but had fallen out of the first team picture under Thomas Tuchel’s reign, spending last season out on loan at Fiorentina. Wolfsburg head coach Dieter Hecking said: “With him, our versatility and effectiveness on the right increases once again. Moreover, Jakub brings with him vast experience. He is a tremendous asset for us.”
Meanwhile, sporting director Klaus Allofs added: “Jakub Blaszczykowski is a great fit for the team, not only because of his footballing qualities but also because he is a model of dedication, commitment and passion. He is someone who identifies with the club 100 per cent. We are delighted he will wear the Wolfsburg shirt.”

The affection at Dortmund for the player known as ‘Kuba’ came through in quotes from sporting director Michael Zorc on club’s official website saying: “Kuba is an extraordinary professional, he has learned a great value – not only as a player – but also as a man and whose life we will always pursue.
“He came in 2007 to BVB in a difficult place, when we had to first economically consolidate our club. Kuba was one of the driving forces on the way to the cup final in 2008 and the Championship in 2011 and 2012.”
Hans-Joachim Watzke added: “We wish Kuba all the best in his other sporting activities. He is a deserving Borusse, a really good guy, which we will always feel connected with. Kuba knows that he will be, with his family, in Dortmund always welcome!”
