Serena Williams continued her quest for a 22nd Grand Slam singles title by obliterating Elena Vesnina 6-2 6-0 to reach Saturday’s Wimbledon final.
The defending champion needed just 49 minutes to defeat the Russian, winning 6-2 6-0 to book a spot in Saturday’s final where she will face either Venus or Angelique Kerber. The younger Williams sister defeated Garbine Muguruza in last year’s final and will now vie for an eighth title and a 22nd Grand Slam.
As Williams won a fifth straight game in the second set, her dominance was reflected by Vesnina’s paltry return of just five points in the second set so far.The champion quickly wrapped up her quickfire victory, finishing two minutes quicker than the previous semi-final record which was set when Venus hammered Dinara Safina in 2009.
In the other game, Angelique Kerber defeated Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4 to reach the finals. In the final she’ll play Serena Williams in a repeat of the Australian Open final in January. Kerber won that in three sets, and she’ll believe she can win.
