England striker Jamie Vardy is set to miss England’s friendlies against Australia and Portugal this week as he is set to get married to his longtime partner, Becky Nicholson.
The Leicester city prolific striker who narrowly missed out on the highest goalscorer gong this season to fellow compatriot Harry Kane was due to get married in June last year but had to postpone it due to his commitment to England duties and manager Roy Hodgson has decided to permit the striker to go and tie the knot and get back ahead of naming his squad for the Euro’s by the 31st of May deadline.
Vardy impressed in yesterday’s 2-1 friendly win over Turkey, scoring the winner and Roy Hodgson has defended his decision to permit the striker to go tie the knot just few days before the tournament. He said ’Vardy won’t be involved on Friday against Australia because he is getting married. But his wedding was planned for last June, I called him up for friendlies and he cancelled it, so he is within his rights to get married on Wednesday. The public might be surprised, but the major reason for it is because he had to cancel the wedding last year.It was more difficult for me than maybe it would have been to complain about this date. Under normal circumstances, Wednesday would be when we would join up and when he planned the wedding, he probably expected we’d have ten days off first before coming back for international duty. We know Jamie, we are satisfied with him and I don’t think his place is under serious threat, so it hasn’t caused me too many problems.’
