Nigerian interim coach Samson Siasia has asserted that his boys have no other option than to win the game against Egypt later today.
Speaking to officials immediately after landing the Borg El-Arab Airport Alexandria, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr Chinyeaka Christian, Siasia retirated that the boys are aware of the task ahead and are ready to fight to the end “We know we have no choice but to win, so we will go all out. There is no alternative. All the players are aware of that fact and whoever gets to play tomorrow will fight very hard for the country.”
Mikel Obi, the captain of the Super Eagles also reteirated his coach’s view and insisted that the boys would have to put in a good fight if they want to advance to next years’s nations cup which Nigeria has failed to qualify in the last two tournaments ” Yes we will have to go there on Tuesday Night and do exactly what we have to do, fight; it is not going to be easy but I keep remembering what we did in Nairobi that evening and I Know it can be done”.
Shuaibu Amodu who is the Technical Director of the team and was the coach that evening in Nairobi was also part of the delegation to Egypt also spoke to the press ahead of the game ” i also remember Nairobi and i have discussed it with Mikel and he remembers it ,the spirit is there and he will pass it on to other players. We just have to remember that it has been done before and that we can do it again.Of course that was a FIFA World Cup qualifier and this is an African Nations Cup qualifier, but the same principle can be applied and Nigeria will come out victorious.”
Egypt currently sits at the top of the table with four points with Nigeria second with two points following Chad’s withdrawal and only a win will be enough for the Super Eagles if they hope to advance
