Shane Long Signs New Southampton Deal Till 2020

Southampton striker, Shane Long has signed a new deal to stay at the club till 2020. The club confirmed it in a statement which reads;

“Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce striker Shane Long has signed a new four-year contract.The Republic of Ireland international, who made the move to St Mary’s in the summer of 2014, has agreed a deal that will extend his stay with the club until 2020.

Long made the move from Hull City ahead of the 2014/15 campaign, helping Saints achieve back-to-back record-breaking seasons in the Premier League.The 29 year-old made 39 appearances and scored eight goals during his first season with the club, before establishing himself as a regular starter during his second year, scoring 13 goals in 34 appearances.Long’s excellent form saw him rewarded with a starting spot for the Republic of Ireland at the European Championships in France this summer, helping his nation reach the last 16 of the competition.

The striker returned to training with Saints on Wednesday, and now signs a new long-term contract ahead of the start of the 2016/17 campaign.Executive Director of Football Les Reed said: “Shane has been an important asset to the team ever since his arrival at the club in 2014, and he was an influential part of our record-breaking Premier League campaign last season.
“His experience and character also make him an extremely valuable member of the squad off the pitch, as well as on it, and I am delighted we have strengthened our commitment with him.Shane is the latest in a significant number of first-team players to have signed new contracts with the club in recent weeks and months, indicating the players’ belief that there is more to come, while further strengthening the core of our squad as we move into what promises to be another memorable campaign.Shane is one of many exciting attacking options that we have at our disposal, and he will no doubt play an important part in the season and the years ahead.”
Shane Long said: “I’m delighted. I’m excited to be part of what could be a big future in the next four years for this club.I love it here, the set-up, the training ground, the lads as well – everyone around the club.
