Sevilla defended their europa league crown yet again after coming from behind to defeat Liverpool 3-1 in the final.
The match which was played in the Swizz capital was played in high intensity as both team’s fans packed full the stadium.Liverpool came into the game in high spirits after impressive victories in the quarter finals and semi finals over Bourissia Dortmund and Villareal respectively while Sevilla also knocked out Athletic Bilbao and Shaktar Doneskt respectively in the quarter finals and semifinals but proved to be a specialist in this competition with yet another impressive 3-1 victory.
Liverpool opened the scoring in the 34th minute after a long ball from defence, contested by Firmino fell for Coutinho who then laid the ball for Sturridge to send a curling shot from just outside the box and into the net to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead. Sevilla were poor in the first half by their own standards and failed to even register a single shot on target. It was a different story in the second half though as it took them just 47 seconds to equalise, Mariano did a good job on the right side, screening Alberto Moreno for dead and his cross across goal was met by Gameiro who tapped into an empty net for the equalizer. The game continued to be played in a high tempo with both teams confident of getting the second but it was Sevilla who responded.Vitolo did a good job on the left hand side, played a couple of one-two’s, eventually the ball fell kindly for Coke who curled past Mignolet to make it 2-1. Liverpool tried to respond but couldn’t. Sevilla eventually put the iceing on the cake with a third goal, howbeit looking like an offside but who cares, Coke getting the goal after Moreno left his space exposed for him to send a shot past Mignolet to end Liverpool’s hope of getting back into the game.
Jurgen Klopp made an attacking substitution, bringing on Benteke for Toure but Liverpool couldn’t stop a resilient Sevilla side from being crowned champions for the third time in a row.Fantastic stuff.
