Sony’s PlayStation 4 has been an unequivocal hit with gamers since it was released in 2013 – and the next iteration is nearly upon us.
According to reports, Sony has sent out invitations to a select group of media for an event in New York City next month.
Called “PlayStation Meeting”, it will be held on September 7 and is widely believed to be the grand reveal of the so called PlayStation “Neo.”
The Neo console which has also been termed PlayStation 4.5 or PlayStation 4K is believed to be more powerful version of the popular console.
The reason for the new hardware is twofold. Firstly, Sony is preparing its PlayStation VR headset to launch in October. Secondly, the advent of 4K (a higher resolution) games is nearly upon us.
A new box with significantly beefed-up specs will be much better prepared to deal with the technical challenges of these updates. Of course, punters will have to shell out a significant amount for the new console.

Sony’s arch rival Microsoft has already revealed its own plans for a new Xbox called “Project Scorpio” that will offer 4K gaming next year.
The Japanese company hasn’t revealed much about what to expect on September 7. It merely says it will “share details about the PlayStation business.”
But those who want a peek at the future of gaming might want to mark the date on their calendars.
