Pictures allegedly showing the forthcoming PlayStation 4 “Slim”- Sony’s rival to Microsoft’s recently released Xbox One S have appeared in a listing on online auction site Gumtree.
The PS4 Slim is thought to have the same specifications as the PS4 but a new, thinner design. Sony has put out slimmer versions of all three of its previous consoles.
The grainy photos show a console similar in appearance to the current PlayStation 4 but with a few notable differences.
As expected, it’s slimmer and sits closer to the floor than the original. The edges are rounded and the design of the casing is uniform rather than the split matte/reflective design of the PS4.
It also has the famous PlayStation logo in the middle of the console.
Sony is rumoured to be working on two new consoles. As well as the PlayStation 4 “Slim”, it is also reportedly planning to launch an updated PlayStation console called the PlayStation 4.5 or “Neo” that will be able to handle the jump to 4K video resolution.
Both models are expected to be unveiled at an event in New York on September 7, which is being billed as “PlayStation Meeting.”
Referring to the leaked pictures, video game site polygon wrote: “It’s unknown if this is the Neo or an updated look for the old model, though it appears to be a revamped version of existing PS4 hardware.

“The only noticeable difference in hardware, save for its size, is the apparent removal of the PS4’s optical port.”
As well as the new consoles, Sony is expected to use its September 7 event to launch its PlayStation virtual reality headset, as well as an update its handheld console, the PS Vita with a new model nicknamed the PS Vita Trinity.
Although the current PlayStation 4 console will be able to support the virtual reality headset, a more powerful version will be able to deliver a better VR experience.
