LA LIGA: Atletico Madrid Out of Title Race As Real Madrid, Barcelona Pick Up Impressive Wins

The La Liga title race will go all the way to the final day but it took another twist as Atletico Madrid surprisingly lost to relegation threatened Levante while MSN were on form for Barcelona to easily dispatch catalan rivals Espanyol and a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid moved ahead of Atletico Madrid on the standings with an impressive 3-2 win over Valencia.Here is our La Liga weekend round up.

Barcelona are one win away from retaining their La Liga title after a 5-0 rout of neighbours Espanyol.Lionel Messi netted before Luis Suarez (two), Rafinha and Neymar scored.Barca are one point ahead of Real Madrid, who beat Valencia 3-2, while Atletico Madrid are out of contention after losing 2-1 at relegated Levante.Barca play their final game at Granada next Saturday and will win the league if the teams finish level on points due to their superior head-to-head record.Atletico Madrid can no longer win the Spanish title following a surprise 2-1 defeat at bottom club Levante.They trail leaders Barcelona by three points with one game to go, and Barca have the better head-to-head record so would win if points are level.Champions League finalists Atletico went 1-0 up through Fernando Torres.But Levante, who are relegated, hit back with goals from Victor Casadesus and a last-minute Giuseppe Rossi strike.Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid held on to beat Valencia 3-2 and keep their La Liga title hopes alive.Real’s victory moved them into second place with one game to go, still one point behind leaders Barcelona, who routed Espanyol 5-0.Ronaldo’s goals either side of a Karim Benzema strike made it 3-1, but Andre Gomes’ goal added to Rodrigo’s earlier effort to make it a nervy finish.

In the other games, Celta Vigo defeated Malaga 1-0, Eibar and Real Betis drew 1-1, Getafe also got a 1-1 draw against Sporting Gijon, Las Palmas and Athletic Bilbao played out a 0-0 draw, Real Sociedad defeated Rayo Vallecano 2-1, while Sevilla and Villareal suffered surprise losses at home as Sevilla lost 4-1 at home to Granada while Villareal lost 2-0 at home to Deportivo La Coruna.
