Gylfi Sigurdsson has today given Swansea City a huge boost ahead of the new Premier League campaign by signing a new four-year contract. Despite interest from a number of clubs over the summer, Sigurdsson has committed to the Swans by penning a new deal until June 2020.
Sigurdsson, who had two years remaining on his previous contract, scored 11 goals in 36 appearances last season for the Swans as Francesco Guidolin’s side finished 12th in the Premier League. This summer, the Icelandic international helped his country reach the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.
A set-piece specialist, Sigurdsson joined the Swans for a second spell from Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee in July 2014. In his first full campaign with the Swans in 2014-15, the Icelandic international impressed by netting seven times in the league and nine times in all competitions during a record-breaking campaign at the Liberty.
Nicknamed the Ice Man, he scored seven goals in 18 games during a successful loan spell in the Swans’ debut Premier League campaign in 2011-12. After starting his career with Reading, which included loan moves with Shrewsbury Town and Crewe, Sigurdsson headed to Germany to join Hoffenheim.

His successful loan spell with the Swans then caught the eye of a number of clubs, with Spurs paying £8.8million for his services in July 2012. Sigurdsson scored eight goals in 58 top-flight appearances during a two-year spell for the London club before returning to the Swans.
