Rory Mcllroy is so focused on completing a career grandslam he wants to skip the traditional masters par-three tournament for the only grandslam that has eluded him.
The world number 3 who competed in his competitive tournament in a while at the WGC world match play title on sunday lost in the semi-finals to Jason Day as he steps up preparation ‘its just too much hassle and a bit of a distraction,’ he said, pointing out the only other time he did not play in it was in 2011, when he had his best chance so far to win, with a three-shot lead going into the final round”.
After all the hype last year when he was still world no1 going into the tournament,Mcllroy is quite happy the spotlight wouldnt be fully on him “I feel a lot more chilled than last year,’ he said. ‘You have Jordan Spieth going back to defend and what Jason Day and Adam Scott have been doing, so the spotlight is going to be a lot less intense than a year ago.”
Rory Mcllroy now definately has quite a lot to do to regain the number one spot in the world rankings and knows it will be a big task to knock of the guys ahead of him.
