FOOTBALL: Tottenham’s Dembele Charged By The FA

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Moussa Dembele has been charged by the FA following incidents that occured in their game against Chelsea on Monday.

The Belgian international has been charged for his eye gouging on Chelsea striker, Diego Costa and may face more than the usual three match ban for violent conduct according to reports in the UK.

A statement on the FA’s website read “Mousa Dembele has been charged for an alleged act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video during the same game,” a statement read.”The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was involved in an incident with Chelsea’s Diego Costa near the end of the first half.Further, it is alleged the player’s behaviour constituted violent conduct in circumstances where the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient”.

The former Fulham man has until 6pm on Thursday to appeal the charge, with reports suggesting he could be banned for up to 10 matches.
