FOOTBALL: Strootman Returns As Netherland Names Squad For Friendlies

Netherland have named Kevin Strootman for their friendlies against Republic of Ireland later this month and Poland next month.


The Dutch squad are not playing at the Euro’s but are using the opportunity to play friendly games to keep them in form ahead of future competitions.Daley Blind, Memphis Depay and Wijnaldum are also invited but Fosu Mensah is not named in the squad as well as Robin Van Persie, and Huntelaar

Veteran Wesley Sneijder has also been belatedly included but will miss the match against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on May 27 because it clashes with his club Galatasaray’s Turkish Cup final date against Fenerbahce.

Here are the 26-man squad;

Goalkeepers: Jasper Cillessen, Kenneth Vermeer, Jeroen Zoet

Defenders: Daley Blind, Jeffrey Bruma, Kenny Tete, Patrick van Aanholt, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Veltman, Ron Vlaar, Jetro Willems

Midfielders: Riechedly Bazoer, Marco van Ginkel, Davy Propper, Bart Ramselaar, Wesley Sneijder, Kevin Strootman, Tonny Vilhena, Georginio Wijnaldum

Forwards: Bas Dost, Luuk de Jong, Memphis Depay, Vincent Janssen, Jurgen Locadia, Luciano Narsingh, Quincy Promes
