Tottenham’s title aspirations were dealt a fatal blow as they drew 1-1 against West Brom at White Hart Lane, thereby increasing the gap at the top to seven points with three games to play.
It was a game Tottenham had to win and many expected them to win but West Brom had other ideas. This also reminds everyone that you can never underestimate a Tony Pulis side. They might not play some beautiful football but they’re dogged and would hassle you down for 90 minutes. Tottenham were coming into this game with some confidence after winning 3-0 against Manchester United at the lane and a 4-0 win against Stoke city at the Brittania while Stoke city came into this game having picked up just one point from their last five matches.
Tottenham got the lead in the first half after Craig Dawson put through his own net and beyond Boaz Myhill.Goals are good, but putting through your own net is such an awful feeling and he knew he had to make amends and he did, scoring from six yards after meeting a corner in the second half.Tottenham were shattered and knew they had to get the winning goal by all means, unfortunately, West Brom held their own for the duration of the game, justifying Pulis’s claim before the game that that his side needed to “hold a flag up” for the competitiveness of the Premier League and that is what they eventually did.

Tottenham though are refusing to give up with coach Mauricio Pochettino insisting his side still needs to believe “”A second goal would have made it very different. In the first half we played very well and it will always happen in football when you allow the other team to believe you can concede. But I think I am still very proud for my players. We still need to believe. We know it will be difficult but we need to still believe and fight for these three games. We have a chance but it is true that now it is more difficult. We understand that this was a must-win and now we have to lift the players.”
Tony Pulis praised the work rate of his players and was happy with the draw “We just watched them dance around us at times but the great thing about the game was we came in just 1-0 down at half-time.But second half was much better – more like the performances we’ve been putting in away from home.I’m really pleased with the players. We lack a bit of quality at times but I can’t fault their work-rate and they work within a shape that suits them.”
Both teams have a tough game to play this weekend though as Leicester city travels to old trafford to face Manchester United knowing a win will guarantee them the league title while Tottenham travel to stamford bridge knowing only a win will give them a fighting chance.
