FOOTBALL: Fellaini and Huth Banned For Three Matches

Manchester United’s midfielder Marouane Fellaini and Leicester City defender Robert Huth will both serve a three-match suspension for their clash during the Premier League encounter at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Both were charged with violent conduct by the Football Association after Fellaini lashed out with his elbow after Huth had pulled his hair during a penalty area tussle in the 21st-minute of the 1-1 draw.Fellaini and Huth both accepted the charge but the Leicester man contested the standard penalty of a three-match ban, suggesting that it was ‘clearly excessive’.A statement on the FA’s website reads

“Marouane Fellaini and Robert Huth have been served a three-match suspension with immediate effect after being charged with violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.The Manchester United midfielder and Leicester City defender were involved in a 21st-minute incident during their fixture on Sunday 1 May 2016.Both players accepted the charge, however, Huth contested that the standard penalty of a three-match suspension would be ‘clearly excessive’.This claim, however, was rejected following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today [Thursday 5 May 2016]”.

It now means Fellaini will miss United’s remaining three Premier League fixtures against Norwich City this Saturday, West Ham on May 10 and Bournemouth on May 15.He will, however, be eligible again for the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley on May 21 while Huth will miss the remainder of title winners Leicester’s season as they host Everton on May 7 and conclude their incredible campaign at Chelsea on May 15 – and their first league game of next season.
