After a calamitious qualifying campaign where the Eagles became one of the first teams to be knocked out of the qualifiers for the Afican Cup Of Nations in Gabon in 2017, the Super Eagles have deem it necessary to apologise for their inability to qualify for the tournament,an apology which surely football loving Nigerians wouldn’t care about.
At a point,Nigerian fans expected the team to step up from the Bronze title it was always winning to win Gold,it eventually came in 2013 though, but seriously,our football has been on a downward spiral since 2010,the stepping up from winning Bronze to Silver or Gold turned out to massive stepping down of not even qualifying at all,missing out in three of the last four AFCON tournaments.They took to twitter to say;
“We apologize for our inability to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup Of Nations.We gave this campaign our best efforts but sadly fell short.We know how disappointed our fans are and we feel their pains too but we ask that they forgive us and never stop getting behind us in future.Now our focus is to get these setbacks behind us quickly and regroup for the fast approaching World Cup Qualifiers starting in October.The NFF has already commenced the process of getting toop quality friendly matchees to prepare the team for the World Cup 2018 qualifiers.
West Ham winger Victor Moses also shared his frustration.He tweeted “Gutted for the result.We gave everything and will be back stronger.Thanks for your support Nigeria”.
The Super Eagles next qualifying match against Tanzania would definately be a mere formality as both teams have already knocked out from qualifying for AFCON 2017 TOURNAMENT in Gabon
