Chairman of Ifeanyi Uba FC has emerged as the chairman of Anambra state’s football association after an election concluded yesterday in the state’s capital, Awka.
Dr Ifeanyi Uba therefore suceeds Chief Mike Umeh as boss of the state FA after his 16-year reign.In an intrigue laden election Tuesday which took place 24 hours before Wednesday’s scheduled date, Dr Ifeanyiubah was elected chairman unopposed following the absence of chairmanship contestant, Chief Olisa Aniuno.
Vice chairman of the new board, Barrister JBC Obikwelu said he was happy the election has come and gone.”I’m happy to be elected as vice chairman. Our task is to move the state forward in football, but most importantly, issues concerning Anambra State Football Association election has been put to rest”.
In other appointments conducted by the NFF Election Committee supervised by its chairman, Ephraim Chukwuemeka,the election also saw the emergence of seven board members including; Cyprain Amuzie, a former secretary of the association and former referee Udennaka Bebeto Anthony from Anambra Central.Former Nigeria Premier League, NPL board member Joe Amene, Kingsley Uduh and ex-Jasper United left winger Emeka Sarafi Raphael, were elected from Anambra North just as Ifepe Edward Ada and Albert Chinye Theodore will represent Anambra South in the board.
Akonam Obiefule,who was a candidate to contest as the vice president discribed the poll as a charade.”Accreditation for the election was held on Monday. Tuesday was slated for media debate while election proper was slated for Wednesday,” Obiefule who was to contest for the vice chairmanship said on Tuesday.”While we’re getting set for the media debate for which we were already invited via phone call, before we got there, they have already concluded an election originally slated for Wednesday”.
