A special moment for Leipzig head coach Ralf Rangnick ended in pain as he injured himself trying to escape a beer bath from his players.
Rangnick’s side were celebrating on Sunday after beating Karlsruhe, 2-0, to secure promotion to the Bundesliga. The 57-year-old had just seen his side beat Karlsruher to seal their place in Germany’s top flight and his stars were handed large glasses of beer to start the promotion party. But the beer was soon being showered over players and staff, with Davie Selke attempting to drench Rangnick during the exuberant celebrations.Unlike his players, the experienced German manager was clearly not warmed up as he darted away from the striker but soon pulled up and grimaced in pain while holding his left hamstring.
It looked like he was in quite a bit of pain, but his players and staff seemed to find the incident funny in the post-match interviews. When asked if he had spoken to Rangnick following the incident, Selke joked he was avoiding his manager. He said: “No, I’m too scared! That’s why I’m giving so many interviews, so I don’t have to go back to the dressing room. I’ll have to run away.He definitely tried to run from me, which isn’t a good idea – I caught him up, I won the race. Then something happened, he probably didn’t warm up enough”
