Nwankwo, a civil servant with the Abia State ministry of Lands and survey, has committed suicide.
According to reports, the deceased committed suicide over his inability pay for his wife’s uniforms for women’s day celebration of their church.
Leadership newspaper who reported the news said, Nwankwo, for months had not received his monthly salary, which eventually made it difficult for him to fend for his family.
Nwankwo, 50, who was a father of four, with two of them still in Primary school, dropped a suicide note for his family who had gone to church before going ahead to commit suicide. He had earlier excused himself from going to church that day.
An anonymous family source told the newspaper that the late civil servant had often approached family members and some friends for financial assistance and raw food items to keep his family going.
According to a source, Nwankwo’s wife had demanded for some money to buy the uniform clothes agreed by the women in the church to wear for the celebration, but he was unable to meet her needs.
I believe his inability to foot the bill and other things may have resulted in the man committing suicide.
The suicide note he dropped reads thus:
I have no other place to go, no hope, nothing to give to my children to eat and no salary for the past four months, am sorry I have to do this.
