A top official of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Ohaike expressed confidence in the Nigerian wrestlers to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, he said, “The 10 wrestlers are made up of five females in freestyle, four freestyle males and a Greco-Roman fighter.
“They have all been taught all the necessary techniques and we are going to correct our mistakes so that we are confident of a good outing in Algeria.
“They will come back with medals and I’m confident that more of our wrestlers will qualify for the Olympics.”
Ohaike asserted that the wrestlers bring pride to the country for the second time this year. He said: “Earlier this month, 12 of them participated in a Senior African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt and won 10 medals.
“Four of them won gold medals, three silver and three won bronze.
“I am confident they will reproduce their performance in Egypt.
“We are sure they will make us proud again.”
Nigeria is to be represented by 10 wrestlers at the Olympic qualifiers scheduled to hold in Algers, between April 1 and 4, 2016 .
