Eder’s Late Strike Lifts Italy Past Sweden

Inter Milan‘s striker Eder scored in the 88th minute to lift Italy past a dogged Swedish side.

Italy knew that a win would see them through to the next round of the tournament after an impressive victory over Belgium in their first game while Sweden needed a win by all means following their 1-1 draw in their first game against Ireland.

In a game of very few chances, Marco Parolo looked to have spurned the best opportunity when he headed against the bar in the 82nd minute.The game looked to be heading for a stalemate until the Inter Milan striker’s tidy finish in the 88th minute. Eder weaved his way across the pitch, beat the static Swedish defence and rifled home.

Sweden had a penalty appeal just minutes later.Andreas Granqvist was brought down in the box by Leonardo Bonucci but the referee waved away their appeals.Italy make it two wins from two and are on their way into the Euro 2016 knockout stages.

Sweden remain on a point in Group E.And despite boasting Zlatan Ibrahimovic in their ranks, they still haven’t had a shot on target.
