Borussia Dortmund have rejected Manchester United‘s 19 million pounds bid for attacking midfielder Henri Mkhitariyan.
The Armenian midfielder, who is out of contract next summer, is one of Jose Mourinho’s primary targets this summer as he looks to overhaul his squad.
Mkhitaryan has made it clear that he will not sign a new deal, with Old Trafford believed to be his preferred destination. But after losing Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels already this summer – while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also being courted by Europe’s top clubs – Dortmund are determined to make a stand over Mkhitaryan. The German club passed up the opportunity to cash in on Robert Lewandowski by making the Polish international see out his contract before a free move to Bayern Munich in 2014.

And the they are prepared to do likewise with Mkhitaryan.Dortmund chief executive Hanz-Joachim Watzke said: “We have been negotiating with Henrikh Mkhitaryan for four months for him to extend his contract with us.
“Now we know that it is not extended, it was never our commitment that Mkhitaryan may leave us prematurely. We have intensely discussed the question of an early transfer in all club bodies and came to the conclusion that Mkhitaryan will stay in Dortmund next season.”
