Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has won the UEFA Best Player in Europe award after a phenomenal 2015-2016 season which saw him win his third Champions League title.
The 31-year-old, who won Europe’s elite competition with Manchester United in 2008 and Real in 2014, added to that tally at the San Siro in May.
Ronaldo was joined by fellow Los Blancos maestro Gareth Bale, and Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, in the final three nominees.
After picking up his award, Ronaldo said: ‘It’s a great honour. My team-mates are the key – they are the key every year. I work hard myself but without their help this would not be possible.
‘Thanks to my team-mates from Real Madrid and Portugal. [Winning Euro 2016] was different because I’ve won the Champions League three times now. To win something with Portugal was the highlight of my career.’
