Paris Saint Germain star Angel Di Maria inspired Argentina to an impressive 2-1 victory over Chile in a Copa America game played last Night.
Argentina were without their captain and talisman Lionel Messi who failed a fitness test before the game but Di Maria was the star on show to defeat a Chile side they lost to in the last Copa America final.
Neither side would budge on the all-important soccer question through the scoreless first half. Then Di Maria surfaced on the wing to provide relief on a night Argentina didn’t have Messi.The first goal came in the 51st minute when Ever Banega intercepted a weak pass in the midfield, turned and ran at the Chilean defenders before leading Di Maria on the left side. The striker was free of defenders while sending a left-footed shot toward the inside of the near post.Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo seemed in position to make an easy save but stumbled under his feet as the ball sailed past.
Eight minutes later, Di Maria charged down the center of Chile’s defense before passing to Banega on the left. The Sevilla midfielder switched feet before his left-footed blast deflected off the boot of Chilean defender Mauricio Isla and into the net for a dominating 2-0 lead.Jose Pedro Fuenzalida scored for Chile just before the game ended.
In the other Copa America action on Monday,Blas Perez scored two goals, including the winner in the 87th minute, as Panama beat Bolivia 2-1 in a Group D opener in Orlando, Florida.
