Chelsea have beaten Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi.
The Belgian international has been granted permission to leave the Belgian squad for a medical and is set to be Antonio Conte’s first signing as Chelsea manager.
Chelsea have had Batshuayi on their shortlist for some time.They had intended to step up their interest had their primary targets, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, proved beyond them.But they scrapped their plans to wait and slapped in a bid at 5pm on Tuesday afternoon after fearing Crystal Palace would land him.

Juventus had only bid £24million and were unable to meet Marseille’s asking price. West Ham indicated to Marseille that they were willing to meet the full asking price and were confident of doing a deal to deny Palace. Batshuayi was last night said to be overjoyed at the prospect of playing for the Blues next season.
