Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman has returned to the Bundesliga following a season-long loan agreement between his club Chelsea and Schalke 04.
The left-back who joined the English giants from Augsburg left the team’s preseason camp in California, U.S.A and arrived in Germany Saturday. He then underwent a mandatory medical for two hours in Gelsenkirchen Sunday morning to complete the move.
Rahman, 22, arrived at Chelsea with high hopes in a big-money move from Augsburg for five years. He however failed to impress Jose Mourinho and could not enhance his reputation under interim manager Guus Hiddink towards the end of his debut campaign in the English game last season. He mostly provided cover for first-choice left-back Cesar Azpilicueta and made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Blues during the 2015/16 campaign.

Rahman is reported to have publicly expressed his unhappiness at the situation and told Chelsea he was unwilling to settle for another bit-part role under new manager Antonio Conte. The new Chelsea boss was unable to offer him assurances over his place in the side, hence the move to seek consistent playing time elsewhere.
Baba Rahman has rejoined his former Augsburg manager Markus Weinzierl, who is now the coach of Schalke, and will be hoping to flourish once more in the Bundesliga. He reportedly snubbed offers for spells at AS Roma, West Bromwich Albion, Bundesliga outfits Liepzig and Hoffenheim to join the Royal Blues of German football.
