Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement with Sevilla over a the transfer of French forward Kevin Gameiro.
That is according to Spanish publication, who report that the deal was struck on Sunday, and brought to light when Gameiro was left out of Sevilla’s friendly with SV Sandhausen.
There are still a few details to be ironed out, but Barca are expected to announce the signing in the coming days. A fee hasn’t been reported as yet.The 29-year-old scored 16 La Liga goals (29 in all competitions) for Sevilla last season, helping them finish third in the division.
He is viewed as the back-up option for ‘MSN’, the attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, and is set to become the club’s fifth signing of the summer. So far, the Spanish champions have recruited Andre Gomes, Samuel Umtiti, Denis Suarez and Lucas Digne.
The Frenchman joined Sevilla from Paris Saint Germain back in 2013 in the hopes of jolting his career back to life. He has done just that during his time in Spain, catching the attention of several big clubs, also helping Sevilla win three straight Europa League titles.
It was thought that Gameiro would be joining rivals Atletico Madrid after reports claimed that the player had talked up a move. However, Barcelona appear to have have won the race for the player, essentially ending their lengthy search for a reserve option.
