South Africa’s Anglican Church, has stripped Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu-van Furth, daughter of Desmond Tutu, off of her priesthood license.
This action was taken due to her recent marriage to another woman, an act frowned up by the Christian faith, thus leading to her license been taken.
According to Modern Ghana means she will no longer be able to preside over weddings, baptisms, Holy communion and funerals.
Tutu-van Furth, who spoke with AFP, said her father, who is in support of gay marriage is ‘sad but not surprised’ by the action of the church.
The canon (law) of the South African Church states that marriage is between one man and one woman,….After my marriage… the Bishop of Saldanha Bay was advised that he must revoke my licence. I offered to return my licence rather than require that he take it from me.
