It was a very intriguing day of transfers activities yesterday as the final day of the transfer window hit its climax with a lot of clubs scrambling to tie up deals for the player they coveted ahead of the deadline at 11.00pm last night.
A whole lot of surprise transfers went down as for the first time, the premier league spendings went beyond one billion pounds. In this article thus, we examine the seven most surprising transfers on deadline day;
Normally, when a young player does very well in an under-age tournament, he announces himself to the world and has top clubs scrambling for his signature. Gnabry has not done well in the league for Arsenal but showed signs of greatness at the Olympics with impressive performances that led Germany to the finals and it looked like that would finally be a stepping stone to a good career at Arsenal. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the case as fast-forward few weeks later; he was sold to Weder Bremen for a minimal $6.5m.
The former Liverpool star was released at the end of last season by Real Madrid after a successful period with the Spanish club that included him winning the Champions league. It therefore came as a surprise to see West Ham ink his signature on a one year deal as Slaven Bilic will be hoping he’ll bring his wealth of experience to help West Ham challenge on all fronts in the league this season.
This will definitely come as a big relief to Liverpool ,as supposed superstar ‘Mario Balotelli’ is off their books. It’s pathetic to see a talent like Balotelli waste but then, it shows just one thing, Talent minus attitude is nothing. At 26, and being a good striker, clubs should be scrambling for his signature; unfortunately, his attitude is acting as a big stumbling block to his greatness. He eventually got a menial one year contract with the French club in what could be his last chance to show if he really wants to achieve anything in the game.
Fact is, even in my dream, I would have never believed Joe Hart would be playing for Torino this season just like every other person. Unfortunately, it’s happening in real life as Pep Guardiola has deemed him surplus to requirement at Manchester city. It’s obviously a one year loan and Joe Hart would be hoping to continue his form in order to move to a bigger club next summer.

Hal Robson was a free agent after being released by Reading F.C for not being good enough last summer. Just like Serge Gnabry, he had an international tournament to prove himself and did justice to it, with impressive displays for Wales at this summer’s Euro 2016. His exploits didn’t go unnoticed though as after the tournament, he had clubs scrambling for his signature before eventually opting to join West Brom on deadline day.
Years ago, he was deemed to be the English Xavi, prospected to be a very good player for England in the future, the future has come and the ‘English Xavi’ still has not showed the world what he is capable of as he has constantly struggled with injury from time to time. Fact is, even when fit, he always had players ahead of him in the team. The good thing now is, he has the opportunity of constant first team opportunities and at a club with a good English manager like Eddie Howe. The question now is, will he stay injury free and show the world what he is really capable of? Or will his constant injury yet again sideline him and limit his impact? Time will tell.
Now I NEVER saw this coming. Going through all them transfer rumors , I felt it was just like a normal whisper, here I am few hours later still surprised David Luiz is back to being a Chelsea player as Chelsea bought him back for thirty-two million pounds. Fact is, Luiz is a warrior and is loved among the Chelsea faithfuls and his presence will just be an added boost for the club as they aim to continue their perfect start to the season.
