As the nation awaits President Buhari’s signature on the 2016 budget, there are key programs included in the budget that will help relief citizens off certain chronic challenges like unemployment and poverty. These programs will also enhance Nigerians who are interested in starting small scale business.
The programs included in the 2016 budget are:
Homegrown School Feeding for primary school pupils
The 2016 budget has allocated earmarked N500 billion for school feeding programme initiatives, which means students in government owned primary schools across the country, will be fed once daily.
Train and deploy 500,000 unemployed graduates as volunteer teachers
President buhari will tackle the issue of unemployment by training and paying about 500,000 graduates as volunteer teachers while they seek jobs in their chosen careers.
Micro-credit scheme for 1 million market women, artisans and traders.
Also, provision to grant a one -time soft loan of about N60, 000 each to one million market women, men and artisans is in the budget. Buhari plans to empower every artisan and market women in order for them to do trade conveniently.
Large scale skills acquisition & vocational training for over 300,000 non-graduate youths
The uneducated youths will not be left out as Buhari plans vocational training for them, the skills they acquire will in turn be a source of income for them.2016 budget made provision for about 300,000 non- graduate youths
N5000 monthly for Poor and Vulnerable Nigerians
President Muhammadu Buhari also stated while presenting the budget that part of the N500 billion allocated for feeding will also be used to conditional cash transfer of N5000 monthly to the most poor and vulnerable citizens, funds will also be made available as post NYSC grant.
