Atletico Madrid’s sensation Saul Niguez has committed his future to the Madrid club.
The Spanish international was linked with a lot of clubs including Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Realmadrid but has signed a new contract to keep him at the club till 2021. He had previously signed a new deal with the club in the summer of 2014 while on a season-long loan to Rayo Vallecano. That contract reportedly included a buy-out fee of €24m buyout option. Coach Diego Simeone praised him last month, saying: “If there’s something that makes me happy, it’s that we are in this situation, with young and new players who are enjoying a great present and an even better future but are committed to working hard daily, and the important thing is that they come to terms with the moment they’re in and seize it.”
After signing, Saul said: ‘I am very happy to continue to defend this shirt.’ Atletico’s official website reports the agreement, which extends for an extra year the midfielder’s deal at Vicente Calderon, sporting director Jose Luis Caminero exalting the renewal.
“We’re all very happy with the agreement reached. Saul is an excellent footballer, who has trained in our academy and reinforces our commitment to players from this house. He’s in a great moment but will grow a lot more because he has huge potential,” Caminero continued.
Saul will now look to help Spain progress at the Euro’s in France next month after getting included in Del Bosque’s 25-man squad.
